The teeth

Author: admin | Files under Oral care

In the mouth of man and other mammal’s food is mechanically shredded by the teeth and mixed with saliva, thanks to the movement of the tongue.  The teeth are made of dentin (or ivory), a special type of bone yellowish very strong.  It is designed to protect the pulp from changes in temperature and mechanical stress.  It is no coincidence the teeth are more mineralized bodies of humans.
Each tooth can stay in a cavity of the jaw or jaw called alveolo dental.
In each tooth there are three parts:
The crown is the part of the tooth that protrudes by alveolo.  Visible to the naked eye, takes different forms depending on the type of tooth; in incisors is flat and sharp, pointed canines in enlarged and in molars and premolars has several peaks.
The collar is located between the root and crown tissue to form a transition around which the mucosa form the gum.
One or more roots just put in alveolo and are anchored to its walls by ligaments of connective tissue (ligament periodontal).  The root is unique in incisors, canines and the lower premolars, while it is double or triple in the upper premolars and molars.
In the crown dentin is covered by a layer of enamel, a special epithelial tissue white and very strong mineralization which is designed to protect the tooth from external aggression.  At the root of the neck and the dentin is covered by another type of bone, said cement, that even to his seat.
The dentin is a small cavity (cavity pulp ale) that contains the pulp of the tooth is particularly rich in blood vessels and nerve endings (trigeminal nerve).  It continues in canals that run through each of the roots (root canal) and then lead in alveolo with a small hole through which to penetrate the tooth blood vessels and nerves.  Inside contains special cells, whose function is to produce the necessary dentin process of renewal.
The sensitivity of the tooth has to do with the presence of nerve endings in the dental pulp.  Each tooth has a touch, heat and pain.
At birth the baby has no teeth, the teeth starts begins around 6 8 months of age when they begin to get the first of the 20 deciduous teeth (milk teeth).  Of these only 4 molars remain for life while the rest are gradually replaced as from 6-7 years.
The number and type of teeth of mammals can be expressed through the dental formula.
Over and above the line are shown from left to right the number of incisors, canines, premolars and molars half the seats on the jaw, below the line are given the same teeth seats on half of the jaw.
In the final match teeth to 32 teeth: 4 incisors 2 canines 4 premolars and molars 6 on the jaw and an equal number on the jaw.
